Offshore Fishing Charters in Hilton Head
For the more adventurous types, perhaps an Offshore Fishing Charter is what you're seeking for a fun time. Often referred to as "Deep Sea Fishing", these charters explore the ocean both near shore and out of sight.
The terms "Offshore" and "Deep Sea" can vary in definition.
For our purposes here, we are using the term "Offshore" loosely, to include everything from 3 miles off the beach out to the Gulf Stream currents 60-80+ miles out. There is a BIG difference in these locations, so you'll want to clarify with a captain at the time of booking to make sure you have similar things in mind. You might want to read our clarification on "offshore" vs "deep sea" fishing for more detailed info.
Nearshore destinations in the first few miles out (like White Water Reef, approx 3 miles off the beach) are accessible in shorter 4-5 hour trips. Further than that, expect 5-8 hours for most mid-range destinations, and 8-12 hours for true Gulf Stream fishing.
Offshore Fishing Charters are typically 5-8+ hours, depending on destination and fishing targets. There are numerous artificial reefs, wrecks, and live bottom areas to fish in the 3-20 mile range offshore. Charter captains will typically need 5-6+ hours for these trips.
In the 7-10 hr range, some fantastic options open up like the Navy Towers, outstanding bottom fishing, and on the furthest end, Gulf Stream fishing.
